what is life for? take great pride in being involved in events for charitable organisations. Below are some of the events and fundraisers they have had the privilege to have been part of.
GOSPORT GALLERY
This wasn't so much a charity gig but more about giving something back to the local community. There is a wealth of young singer/songwriter talent in Gosport and Fareham and this event was to showcase this. What is Life For? played an accoustic set and afterwards spoke to some of the musicians about the pros and cons about being in a band and about music in general.
DANCING IN THE STREET
This was a joint venture between Southampton Market Traders and Play Radio to hold a weekend of music with a bumper three day market to raise funds for the families of the two Southampton fire fighters, Alan Bannon and James Shears, who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event raised £1,100 which was donated to the Memorial Fund.
PORCHESTER MUSIC FESTIVAL
This event was organised to raise funds in memory of a little girl called Hannah Westbrook who, at the age of 10, sadly passed away from Hodgkin's Disease. Hannah's friends and family set up the charity to raise funds to purchase a holiday home on the outskirts of the New Forest to allow families a break from the stress and strain of caring for someone with cancer and also to allow grieving families space and valuable family time. Hannah, despite her illness, raised over £10,000 for the Pam Brown Ward where she underwent her treatment for her cancer. More information on this charity can be found at www.hannahsappeal.org
BOTLEY SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL
Despite threats of closure, attacks by vandals and money troubles, fundraisers have fought hard to keep Botley School Swiming Pool afloat since 2008. To mark it's 40th Anniversary, a music extravaganza was organised to celebrate and help raise funds for the Save the Pool Fund. The event also saw the launch of their celebrity charity cookbook with 180 receipes from celebrities such as Sir Alex Ferguson and Amanda Holden.
INTERNATIONAL REMEMBRANCE DAY
On the 21st July in the late 1990's, a German heroin addict overdosed and died. Over the years this has become an "international" day of remembrance for those who have died through alcohol and drugs mis-use. MORPH, a project based in Southampton which helps ex and on-going drug users, organised an event as part of this international day. Funds raised will go to a permanent memorial to those who have lost their lives through substance mis-use.
