Somewhere / The Rush (double A side)

The Rush

“The Rush” is the second track on the ‘What is Life For?’ double A side but don‘t be fooled - just because it isn‘t track 1, doesn‘t put it anywhere near 2nd place.

There is a real American vibe that emulates from this track which is in no way a bad thing. We have had a major gap in the market for a long time that historically gets filled for a while by an American band. Now, what this band has seemed to be able to do is seamlessly take the best parts from bands like Finch, Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters (to name a few) and merge them into one incredible track - “The Rush” is what they got.

The song oozes with emotion and, as far as I’m concerned, boarder lines anthem. Bog statement? These guys back it up. Take the vocals for a start. Singer Nick Bowen sounds as if he is really part of the song. He hasn’t become complacent with his singing instead you can almost feel every drip of blood and sweat that were put into the lyrics and how he puts them across. The instrumentals keep the song interesting - there is no generic structure that can be criticised instead there is a real sense of euphoria as the verses are broken up, its only then that the real impact of the song forces itself upon you like a freight train. The drum beat never falters and along with the bass line are a driving force behind the song in a way that will make you feel as if you are on a journey and all the while the guitars slice through the song in near epic proportions in a way that seems to be both an adrenalin drug and a thing of beauty.

Despite the song title, you’ll be in no rush for this track to end and it will no doubt be set to repeat in CD players for some time to come.

Summary -

Although it may deserve more, I’m living in hope that WiLF? will be able to follow up from their double A side with even bigger and better things and there is no doubt in my mind that they will deliver big time.
